What Is Total Richness? (It’s Not Just Money)
When most people hear the word rich, they immediately think about money. A big house, nice cars, expensive vacations, never worrying about bills again. That’s the image we all grow up with — rich equals money.
But the older I get and the more people I see chasing money, building businesses, working nonstop, and still feeling exhausted, stressed, unhealthy, or unhappy, the more I realize something very important:
Money alone does not make you rich.
You can have money and no time.
You can have money and bad health.
You can have money and constant stress.
You can have money and no freedom.
That’s not rich. That’s just expensive stress.
At some point I started thinking about what being rich actually means, and I realized it’s much bigger than a bank account. That’s where the idea of Total Richness came from. To me, Total Richness is when your money, your health, your time, your freedom, and your peace of mind are all growing at the same time. If one of those is completely out of balance, life doesn’t really feel rich, no matter how much money you make. Money is still important — very important. Money reduces stress. It gives you options. It allows you to travel, invest, help your family, start businesses, and buy back your time. Money is a powerful tool. But it’s still just a tool. It’s not the finish line.
I’ve seen people with high incomes who are completely burned out. They work all the time, they’re always stressed, they don’t sleep enough, they don’t take care of themselves, and they don’t actually enjoy the life they’re working so hard to build. That doesn’t look rich to me.
Health is a form of wealth that people ignore until something goes wrong. Having energy when you wake up, feeling good in your body, not being constantly stressed and exhausted — that’s wealth. Because if you don’t have your health, it’s very hard to enjoy anything else you worked for.
Then there’s something people don’t talk about enough: time. Time wealth might actually be one of the most important types of wealth. Being able to take a random day off, travel without asking permission, spend time with people you care about, work on projects you enjoy, or just rest without feeling guilty — that’s a rich life. A lot of people make good money but have absolutely no control over their time. They’re always busy, always rushing, always waiting for the weekend. That’s not Total Richness either.
Freedom is another huge part of it. Freedom to choose where you live, what work you do, who you work with, what your schedule looks like, and what kind of life you want to build. Money without freedom can feel like a comfortable cage. You might be doing well financially, but you still feel stuck.
And then there’s peace of mind, which might be the most underrated wealth of all. Not constantly worrying about money. Not living paycheck to paycheck. Not feeling trapped. Not feeling like your life is out of control. Feeling like you’re moving forward and building something. That feeling of stability and direction — that’s wealth too.
So when I think about Total Richness, I don’t just think about income. I think about building a life where your money is growing, your health is good, you have control over your time, you have freedom to make choices, and you have peace of mind about your future.
Because what’s the point of a big house if you’re never home?
What’s the point of a nice car if you’re always stressed?
What’s the point of a high salary if you’re exhausted all the time?
What’s the point of building a business if you have no life outside of it?
Real richness is balance.
Real richness is options.
Real richness is waking up and not hating your day.
The goal isn’t just to make more money and work more and be busy all the time. The goal is to make smart money, build assets, create income streams, protect your health, protect your time, and design a life that you actually enjoy living. That, to me, is Total Richness. Build a rich bank account, yes.
But also build a rich life.
